About The Author

Thomas Dorman Woods, Jr.

Thomas Dorman Woods Jr. has a quite different take on storytelling that is often laced with melody. Probably this was refined through his experience as a very productive songwriter and skilled guitarist. Born in 1954, Thomas has been a loving and supportive husband for 50 years. He finds his muse in the traditions and culture of his family’s roots in West Virginia.

He has a bachelor’s degree in Communications as well as a Master’s degree in Theology. Such educational achievements enable him to provide a thorough and well researched viewpoint that distinguishes his pieces from the usual. His debut, The Fork Lick Parables, is quickly becoming a favorite choice for historical fiction for book clubs seeking deeper moral inquiry. Many readers are already placing this evocative American Civil War historical fiction among the best Civil War novels of all time, marking a powerful entry into Civil War historical fiction book shelves everywhere.

About The Book

The Fork Lick Parables

In The Fork Lick Parables, the peaceful town of Fork Lick is forced to shed its isolation. In a time when the nation is tearing itself apart, neighbors will have to make a severe decision: slavery or abolition, Confederate or Union. This evocative Civil War small town story makes a surprising change when a runaway slave is looking for help from the merciless bounty hunters. When the locals hide him, they get involved in the perilous network similar to the ones described in the novels about the Underground Railroad.

Juggling the dilemma of keeping themselves safe or following their conscience, the characters cannot just cope with the disorder but survive as well. This historical fiction Civil War book, considered among the best Civil War historical fiction books by many, is deeply engaging and tells of the ways ordinary folks can muster up the strength to recognize the inherent dignity of every human even as the world disintegrates.
